A Safe Way for Kids to Watch Videos

Posted by paul on in . with Comments closed |

December 18, 2013

My research led me to a Canadian product (based in Calgary) called Kidoodle.TV (the website is www.kidoodle.tv)  You download the App over multiple devices supported, and your child gets to watch videos that are age appropriate for those under 12yrs old, with filters you can add.

From the website:

“Kidoodle.TV features content designed for kids 12 and under. Parents have the ability to restrict content based on age, viewing habits, and family values.”

The subscription costs $4.99/month.  It’s currently FREE until the end of the year for anyone to try out.  I will have a full review in January, after I download and test.  By all accounts – it’s a product that parents should love.

An article released by Carnegie Mellon show how adding our Religious affiliations posted on Facebook and Twitter cause bias in hiring.  Information Shared Via Online Social Networks Can Lead to Hiring Discrimination???  Well, there’s a shock (not).

Facebook – What is Always Public

Posted by paul on in . with Comments closed |

December 1st

Early morning reading lead me to a great page on Facebook when reviewing their updated privacy settings:

Here is a list of what is ALWAYS Public

– Your Name

– Profile Picture & Cover Photo

– Your Networkds

– Your Gender

– User Name & User ID

Further to my point I make to parents and students – keep it as private as you can be spending time on your Facebook security setting.

DELETE SNAPCHAT

By now you may have read all the negative press Montreal has given us, about students using SNAPCHAT in a child porn case.  Thankfully, I have students High Schools who listen to my words and want to remove their Snapchat app.  Here is how.  Visit the following link, and delete your account:

Snapchat tied to child pornography investigation

And yet another reason as to why I do not promote SNAPCHAT, and that it should not be on any of your children’s devices:

From Digital Trends;

10 teenage boys were recently arrested in Laval, Montreal, suspected of producing and sharing child pornography. According to a local news report, the suspects are between the ages of 13 and 15 and were using a variety of gadgets to take photos of their girlfriends – who are within the same age range – in sexually suggestive poses. The reason why these girls thought it was completely OK to send out nude selfies? They were using Snapchat.

Deleting Facebook Account – of the Dead

Posted by paul on in . with Comments closed |

Don’t laugh – I have been asked twice in one week:

“How do we delete an account of someone who has died”

Excellent question.  Unfortunately, you must provide a bunch of information (of which I am against) to facebook..  Death Certificate or Birth Certificate, etc..  Which is NON of their business..  Here are the instructions as per Facebook

BBM For All Is Released

Posted by paul on in . with Comments closed |

I waited about 10 days after the “official” release to advise that BBM (Blackberry Messenger) for Android and iOS is available.  It will dominate the texting arena.  Many who have left Blackberry (and who loved BBM) will now return using their favourite way to text.
